Draft: not yet reviewed by a lawyer
This is a starting point written to fit how the academy actually operates, not legal advice. It needs review by a qualified lawyer before launch, particularly the sections on children's data, which fall under three different regimes at once (UK GDPR, US state law and COPPA, and Nigeria's NDPA). Highlighted values still need to be filled in.

1. Who we are
Excel Innovation Academy provides live online tutoring to students in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States and elsewhere. The academy is operated by[Legal entity name], registered in Nigeria under [RC number], with its registered office at [Registered address].
In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Excel Innovation Academy, and "you" means the parent, guardian or adult student using this website.
We are the data controller for the information described below. If you have any question about this policy, contact us at excelinnovation1@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
When you complete the enquiry form on this website, we collect:
- the parent or guardian's name;
- an email address;
- a phone or WhatsApp number;
- the student's year group or grade level;
- the region or curriculum the student follows;
- the subjects you are asking about; and
- anything you choose to write in the message field.
If you go on to book lessons, we also collect scheduling information, assessment results, lesson notes and progress records for the student, and billing details.
Information we collect automatically
We record which page an enquiry was sent from and the referring website, so we understand which parts of the site are useful. This website does not set advertising or analytics cookies and does not track you across other websites. Our hosting provider may set strictly necessary cookies required to serve the site securely.
3. Children's information
Most of our students are under 18, and some are under 13. We take a deliberately narrow approach to their information:
- We do not ask children to fill in this form. The enquiry form is for parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child through this website.
- We collect the minimum. Before lessons begin we hold a year group, a curriculum and a first name. We do not need a home address, a date of birth or a school name to teach a child, and we do not ask for them.
- We never sell or share children's information for advertising. It is not used for marketing of any kind, ours or anyone else's.
If you believe a child has given us information without your involvement, emailexcelinnovation1@gmail.com and we will delete it.
4. Why we use your information
- To respond to your enquiry and arrange the free assessment and trial lesson. This is at your request, and is our reason for collecting the form data.
- To deliver tutoring: matching a tutor, scheduling around your time zone, running lessons and preparing the monthly progress report. This is necessary to perform our agreement with you.
- To take payment and keep the accounting records the law requires us to keep.
- To improve our teaching: reviewing anonymised patterns in assessment results to see where our approach is working. This is our legitimate interest, and you can object to it at any time.
We do not send marketing email unless you ask us to, and if you do, every message will carry a one-click unsubscribe.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make the academy work, each of which is bound to use it only on our instructions:
- Google: enquiries are recorded in Google Sheets.
- Resend: sends the confirmation and notification emails.
- Vercel: hosts this website.
- Microsoft: lessons are delivered over Microsoft Teams.
- [Payment provider]: processes payments. We do not store your card details.
We will also disclose information where the law requires it, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect a child from harm.
6. Where your information goes
We operate from Nigeria and teach students in the United Kingdom, the United States and beyond, so your information will be transferred across borders. Where information leaves the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on the safeguards our providers have in place, including the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not become lessons: 24 months, then deleted.
- Student records: for as long as the student is with us, and then[period] afterwards, so a former student can request a record of their progress.
- Financial records: for the period tax law requires, currentlysix years.
8. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you or your child;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete it, where we do not have to keep it by law;
- stop or limit how we use it;
- send it to another provider in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent you have given, at any time.
Email excelinnovation1@gmail.com and we will respond within one month. We will never charge you for making a request, and we will not treat you differently for having made one.
If you are in the UK you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EEA, to your national supervisory authority; and in Nigeria, to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
9. How we protect it
Access to enquiry and student records is limited to the people who need it to do their job. Data is encrypted in transit. Tutors are vetted before they meet a student and are bound by confidentiality obligations. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects you we will tell you and the relevant regulator as quickly as the law requires.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Where a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you directly.
